The Goldsmiths’ Centre in London has announced the opening of a new exhibition titled ‘Apprentice to Masterpiece: The Work of the Goldsmiths’ Apprentices’, which will run until 25 April 2024.

This exhibition spotlights the exceptional talent of four apprentices from the jewellery, silversmithing, and allied industries, demonstrating their remarkable achievements through their handcrafted ‘Masterpieces’.

    Featured Apprentices and Their Achievements

The apprentices include Sophie Chapman of Asprey London Ltd; Amy Gibson from Alex Monroe Ltd; Celeste Heathcote of SamJames Ltd; and Charlie Lewis at Stuart Ray Ltd all completed their training in December 2023 and were recognised at the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council 2024 competition for their outstanding work.

Helen Dobson, Programme Manager (Education) states: “We are extremely proud of the four award-winning Masterpieces within the exhibition and the exceptional young craftspeople who have created them. This exhibition is a great reminder of the need for continued excellent craft education within the UK – something that the Goldsmiths’ Company Apprenticeship Scheme and the Goldsmiths’ Centre are committed to.”

    The Role of Industry Support

This exhibition not only highlights the apprentices’ skills and creativity but also underscores the vital role that industry employers play in supporting and nurturing emerging talent. The commitment of these employers, in collaboration with the Goldsmiths’ Centre and the Goldsmiths’ Company, is crucial in fostering the next generation of craftspeople through initiatives such as the Goldsmiths’ Company Apprenticeship Scheme.

The ‘Apprentice to Masterpiece’ exhibition is accessible free of charge from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, providing a unique opportunity for professionals and enthusiasts to explore the innovative works of these promising artisans.
